The world of BDSM is often misunderstood as focused solely on pain and brutality. Responsible practitioners know that, actually, kink often fosters a heightened level of intimacy between partners, as it requires vulnerability, honesty, and a deep respect of each other’s desires and limits.

For this project, I scouted real-life couples to sit for a series of portraits that depict their dynamic in a frank and unapologetic way. In shooting these photographs, I was able to witness the unique way each couple related to one another—not just through their kink practices, but as lovers all their own.
